Congratulations to all the local authorities that took part in TravelWise Week / European Mobility Week 2019. This was the year when the UK campaign turned the corner and the single figure number of participating towns and cities more than doubled.from 7 to 16. World wide the number topped 3,000 for the first time with 3,133 in total. In the UK there was a significant increase in smaller towns and a headline grabbing 12 miles of car free roads in London including over Tower Bridge. Birmingham planned the closure of the iconic Aston Expressway, and Aberdeen celebrated 10 years of car free day in the North East of Scotland. Smaller towns also joined in with St Andrews participating for the third time, Worcester, Bath, Milton Keynes, Exeter and Gloucester, while Oxford Brookes University joined in with a 'mobility action'.
Shortlisted in the large local authority category are Aberdeen and London.
Shortlisted in the smaller local authority category are Bath, St Andrews and Worcester.
In the 'mobility action' category for bodies other than local authorities, there were 15 actions registered and the shortlisting is underway.
The TravelWise Week Awards will be presented at the Act TravelWise Annual Conference on 30 January 2020 in Birmingham.
